PROFILE OF CFTRI ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

The CFTRI Alumni Association came into being in the year 1982 with Dr. B.L. Amla and Dr. Manjrekar as the patrons and Dr. S. Ranganna and Dr. A.M. Nanjundaswamy as the President and Secretary respectively.

The objectives of the Alumni Association are:

To provide a forum for the Alumni of the Institute.
To promote the professional interests of the Alumni.
To further the cause of Food Science and Technology.
To strengthen liaison between the Alumni and CFTRI.
To engage in such academic and social activities as to promote fellowship among Alumni.

The Association at present has about 350 members. During the last six years, all students admitted to the M.Sc. (Food Tech.) Course become members of the Association. Alumni Association has organized several programmes such as seminars and colloquia on topics of current interests. Talks by experts from various R & D disciplines of CFTRI have been arranged for projecting future lines of R & D work.

Some of the important seminars arranged have made attempts in :

Addressing Technical problems of food industries in India with the participation of
Alumni working in food industries.
Improving the curriculum of M.Sc. (Food Tech.) course to meet the dynamic needs of food industry.

Awarads From The Alumni : Outstanding Alumnus Award

This award of the Alumni Association is given every year to a person in recognition of his or her long and outstanding contribution to the area of food science and technology.

Dr. G.S. Siddappa Memorial Award

Dr. G.S. Siddappa was former Assistant Director of CFTRI known as the doyen of Fruit and Vegetable Technology in India. He has made a significant contribution to the International Food Technology Training Programme at CFTRI. This award is given annually to a person who has made outstanding contribution in R & D work which leads to growth and development of fruit and vegetable processing industry in India.

Dr. J.S. Pruthi Award

Dr. J.S. Pruthi is well-known food technologist and is an active member of Alumni Association. This award is given to a person who has made outstanding contribution in R & D work leading to growth and development of spices processing industry in India and is instituted by Dr. J.S. Pruthi.

Silver Medal

Silver Medal award is presented to the M.Sc. (Food Tech.) student who gets the second rank in the examinations.
