Food Science and Technology Information Services (FOSTIS) is the central library of CFTRI, and India's National Information Centre for Food Science and Technology (NICFOS). The library is one of the major information resource centres serving the food processing profession with an extensive collection of books, periodicals, reports, CD ROM databases, standards, patents, theses and other intellectual materials from national and international sources. These materials have been of immense value to scientists, researchers and industries in keeping abreast of the currents of knowledge in their respective spheres.
 

Managed by a team of information scientists and library professionals, and supported by excellent computing, reprographic, printing and other facilities, the information centre offers a variety of specialised services:

Database Search Service

Through this service, we regularly provide the users with the exact information they need, depending on their interest profile, from our collection of major national and international databases (retrospective and current) on food science and technology. The databases are in CD ROM or computerised form which saves their valuable time and energy, as the information available here is pinpointed and readily accessible.
The service is being used by the food process industry and others for long, and has become popular by virtue of the unique advantages it offers to them.

DOCUMENT DELIVERY SERVICE

Through this service, we provide the original articles required by the user, on order, by searching our collection of printed or CD ROM publications. We provide quality photocopies of the full articles ordered, only for R&D purposes, on payment of a fee.

PUBLICATION SERVICE

Publication of R&D and industry-oriented literature is one of the major functions of FOSTIS/NICFOS. We publish periodicals such as Food Technology Abstracts, Food Digest and Food Patents that are widely circulated and noted in the literary world of food. (Details are available in the section headlined Publications, covering publications from all the departments of CFTRI together.) We also publish

This database (on floppy diskettes) covers titles of papers in food science and technology published by CFTRI’s staff from 1950 to current, with bibliographic information.

This half-yearly publication covers the latest books, monographs, dissertations, theses, annual reports, and periodicals added to our library.

"IFIS" INPUT CENTRE

Our library regularly contributes abstracts of Indian R&D articles related to food to IFIS (International Food Information Service) for the knowledge of the international community.

With the subscription rates of scientific and technical journals rising constantly, sharing of library resources is now becoming increasingly popular everywhere, and the science and technology libraries of Mysore city have accordingly ventured to form a network of their own called the MYLIBNET. Our library is a member of this network and we have now ventured into preparation of a union catalogue of scientific and technical journals available in Mysore City called Mysore City S&T Library Holdings or MCLH. MCLH carries over 400 entries and the currently subscribed journals have been indicated here with distinguishing marks.
