About CFTRI and its R&D Departments


Central Food Technological Research Institute is a premier Research Institution under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (C.S.I.R), New Delhi and is engaged in research and development in the field of Food Science and Food Technology.  R&D Departments of CFTRI include Biochemistry & Nutrition, Fermentation Technology & Bioengineering, Flour Milling, Baking & Confectionary Technology, Food Engineering, Food Microbiology, Food Packaging Technology, Food Protectants & Infestation Control, Food Safety & Analytical Quality Control Laboratory, Fruits & Vegetable Technology, Grain Science & Technology, Lipid Science & Traditional Foods, Meat Fish & Poultry Technology, Plant Cell Biotechnology, Plantation Products, Spices & Flavour Technology, Protein Chemistry & Technology, Sensory Science, Human Resource Development and other related basic areas with well qualified and experienced Scientists, Engineers and Technologists.  The efforts of these R&D Departments are complimented by support Departments and Resource Centres spread over the Country.  An advanced Central Instrumentation Facility with all the modern instruments required for Biological Sciences and a Pilot Plant equipped with state-of-the-art equipments and an excellent Library are also part of the infrastructure.

Benefits under CSIR Service

1.    The posts carry usual allowances i.e., DA, HRA, Transport Allowance etc. as admissible to Central Government Employees stationed at Mysore as made applicable to CSIR employees. HRA will not be admissible if Council accommodation is provided.

2.    In addition to the emoluments indicated against each category of Posts, benefits such as applicability to new Pension Scheme, 2004, reimbursement of Medical Expenses, Leave Travel Concession, Conveyance Advance and House Building Advance are available as per rules of CSIR.

3.    All New Entrants will be governed by the “Defined Contribution Pension Scheme” as applicable to candidates recruited in Central Government Services on or after       1-1-2004, as adopted by CSIR for its employees. However, persons selected from other Government Departments /Autonomous Bodies /Public Sector Undertakings /Central Universities having Pension Scheme as per CCS (Pension) Rules, 1972 on GoI pattern will continue to be governed by the same.

4.    A Technical Staff of the Institute can augment his income with sharing of earnings by way of honorarium/ Intellectual Fees from Consultancy/ Technical Services and R&D sponsored projects undertaken by the Institute.

Age Limit & Relaxation

1.    The date for determining the upper age limit, qualifications and/or experience shall be the closing date prescribed for receipt of completed Application Form i.e., 23.11.2009

2.    Upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years in the case of SC/ST and by 3 years in the case of OBC candidates for the posts which are reserved for the respective categories. Relaxation of upper age limit for Persons with Disabilities (PWD), Ex-Servicemen and Meritorious Sportspersons will be applicable as per GoI rules.

3.    Relaxation of 5 years will also be admissible to those who had ordinarily been domiciled in the Kashmir division of the State of Jammu and Kashmir during the period from January 1, 1980 to December 31, 1989 subject to production of relevant Certificate from the concerned Authority.

General  Conditions/Information

1.    Only Indian Nationals need to apply.

2.    The period of experience in a discipline / area of work where prescribed shall be counted with effect from the date of acquiring the prescribed minimum educational qualification for that Group / Grade.

3.    Appointment will be in the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), which is an Autonomous Body. The selected Candidates may be posted either at CFTRI (the Headquarters of the Institute) at Mysore or at any of its Resource Centres at Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Lucknow.  The appointees are also liable to be posted in any of the Laboratories / Institutes of CSIR situated anywhere in India as and when required.

4.    Applications from employees working in CSIR, Government Departments, Public Sector Organizations, Autonomous Institutions and Government-funded research agencies will be considered only if forwarded through proper channel and with a clear certificate that the applicant will be relieved within one month of the receipt of the appointment orders. However candidates can send an advance copy along with necessary application fee (wherever applicable) before the last date for receipt of completed application forms.

5.    Mere fulfilling of minimum prescribed qualifications and experience will not vest any right on a candidate for being called for Test/ Interview.  A duly constituted Screening Committee shall screen the applications received for the post for short-listing the candidates to be called for Test/ Interview. The candidate should therefore mention in the application all the qualification and experiences in the relevant field over and above the minimum prescribed qualification supported with documents. The Institute reserves the right to call for test / interview, only those candidates who in its opinion are likely to be suitable and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard.

6.    Outstation candidates called for interview will be reimbursed Travelling Allowance as extended under rules i.e., to and fro single second class rail fare/ ordinary bus fare from the normal place of their residence or from the actual place of undertaking the journey, whichever is nearer to the place of interview, provided the original/Xerox copies of the tickets are produced.

7.    CFTRI reserves the right not to fill up any/ all the posts, if it so desires. The number of vacancies indicated above are provisional and may vary at the time of actual Selection.

8.    Candidates applying for more than one post should submit separate online Applications for each post.

9.    An Application Fee of Rs.100/- (Rupees One Hundred only) is payable separately for each post (Candidates belonging to SC/ST community,  Persons with Disabilities (PWD) and regular employees of CSIR are exempted from payment of application fee) in the form of Demand Draft valid for a period of atleast 5 months from the last date for receipt of applications. Demand Draft should be drawn in favour of the Director, CFTRI payable at Mysore.

10.    Application (i) not accompanied with prescribed application fee, (ii) without the requisite information asked for in the Application Format; and (iii) received after the due date will not be considered. Incomplete applications will be outrightly rejected.

11.    The relaxation in age limit, qualifications and / or experience may be considered only in case of exceptionally meritorious candidates with the approval of the competent authority.

12.    The qualification prescribed should have been obtained from recognized Universities/ Institutions/ Technical Boards in the areas mentioned against each posts. 

13.    Marks awarded under OGPA/CGPA system or under letter grade system should be converted to equivalent of percentage and indicated in the application form along with supportive documents for such conversion, failing which the decision with regard to arriving at the percentage by the Institute will be binding on the candidates.

14.    How to Apply:

Candidates are required to submit their application on line only and to take the printout of the filled in electronic application form for each post separately applied by them and submit the hard copy duly signed and affixing the photograph for each post along with prescribed application fee and copies of certificates and testimonials.

15.    In the event of any problem in submitting application online due to non accessibility of facility for applying on line, they may send a Rs.10 stamped self addressed envelope requesting for an application form  to CONTROLLER OF ADMINISTRATION, CENTRAL FOOD TECHNOLOGICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE, MYSORE- 570 020 on or before 11.11.2009.

16.    Application duly signed and completed in all respects with the following documents should reach the CONTROLLER OF ADMINISTRATION, CENTRAL FOOD TECHNOLOGICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE, MYSORE- 570 020 in a sealed cover super subscribing “APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF _________________,POST CODE______, ADVT. No. REC 3/2009, on or before 23.11.2009.

a.   Non-Refundable application fee of Rs.100/- (Rupees One hundred only) wherever applicable by way of Demand Draft drawn in favour
      of the DIRECTOR, CENTRAL FOOD TECHNOLOGICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE, MYSORE, payable at Mysore.
b.   Attested copy of matriculation or equivalent certificate with mark sheet.
c.   Attested copy of Mark lists of Degree / Diploma and certificate issued by the concerned authority.
d.   Attested copy of caste certificate issued by competent authority in respect of SC/ST/OBC candidates.  In case of OBC candidates, the
      OBC certificate should in the format prescribed by Government of India.
e.   Attested copy of disability certificate issued by the Competent authority in the form prescribed by Government of India.
f.    Attested copy of experience certificate(s).

17.  Applications received after the due date and applications that are incomplete are liable to be rejected.

18. Applications without any of the relevant documents mentioned at Sl.No.16 are liable to be rejected.

19.  Canvassing in any form and / or bringing in any influence, political or otherwise will be treated as a disqualification for post applied for.
